Today Maylin turns 15 months old. It feels bitter sweet to me. I am so glad we have her and enjoy every day that she grows, yet I wish time would slow down because I don't want to loose my baby to quickly. The bonding process has gone very well. It is as if we have always had her. She loves us all too. She prefers me which I hear is a good thing. She hugs her brothers and sister and gives them kisses good-night. When daddy comes home from work she squeals and runs to him. She loves to rub my hair when she is sick or trying to sleep. She feels at home and knows her way around and isn't shy to ask, or for that matter take, what she wants. The hardest part has been with eating. She doesn't eat much which worries me. She would eat Top Ramen and popcycles every day, but that's not to healthy. I am not sure what to do. Any suggestions? Maylin is happy 99% of the time. But she can pitch a fit! Wow!! That tiny body packs a punch.
Here is an update on painting. The doors continue to be a nightmare. We don''t have doors on the girls bathroom and no doorknobs on any of the other doors. Hopefully next week. I love everything else. Many of you asked about the glaze in the kitchen. It is an oil based glaze that comes in black, white, brown. You roll it on with a small roller and then take it off with a rag, by blotting it. You can make it darker or lighter depending on how much you put on and how much you take off. Here are pictures of Maylin's room. I was scared to make a change with 2 colors, but I think I like it. I don't know if you can tell but on the pink paint it is a wash (first white swirly, then pink) with light white flowers like the top pink ones. I picked words to go around her room that may inspire her. The Chinese translation is underneath. Of course, we used Meng, that was her first name...Meng ni and they called her Nini. The words are in vinyl and the flowers were painted using a pa...

Sweet potatoes
cottage cheese (I mix it with everything...sweet potatoes, apple sauce, etc).
Yogurt
string cheese
bananas
frozen lima beans (good for teething relief)
familia (whole grain baby cereal)
edemame (you can get a huge bag at costco. This is her absolute fave)
Pasta with cheese, butter and spinach
I've made smoothies with berries and bannanas. You should try making a smoothie with bannana strawberries and milk and make your own popcicles out of it...maybe she'll go for that?
Have you tried congee with fish or chicken? That's what a lot of babies in China are used to eating.
Sometimes I have to give Eliza the bowl on her high chair tray and put a spoon in each of her hands to occupy them and then feed her.
Eliza is not a fussy eater, but maybe you can try some of these things? Hang in there!
e-mail me @ utahvisionteacher@yahoo.com if you want any other suggestions. I can give you my phone # and we can chat!
