Maylin is 15 Months Old

Today Maylin turns 15 months old. It feels bitter sweet to me. I am so glad we have her and enjoy every day that she grows, yet I wish time would slow down because I don't want to loose my baby to quickly. The bonding process has gone very well. It is as if we have always had her. She loves us all too. She prefers me which I hear is a good thing. She hugs her brothers and sister and gives them kisses good-night. When daddy comes home from work she squeals and runs to him. She loves to rub my hair when she is sick or trying to sleep. She feels at home and knows her way around and isn't shy to ask, or for that matter take, what she wants. The hardest part has been with eating. She doesn't eat much which worries me. She would eat Top Ramen and popcycles every day, but that's not to healthy. I am not sure what to do. Any suggestions? Maylin is happy 99% of the time. But she can pitch a fit! Wow!! That tiny body packs a punch.

She is so cute, Laurel. You are so blessed. I am not sure that any 15 mo. old eats what they are supposed to. I remember one child that ate nothing but Cherrios at that age, and another that ate nothing but peanut butter sandwiches from about age 5 to age 6. I am not sure you need to worry much. I did think it was weird that the reports you got from China indicated they started babies on solid food much earlier than we do here. I don't think that has much to do with her appetite now, but feeding eggs to a 4 month old, how weird is that.

Here are Eliza's faves:
Sweet potatoes
cottage cheese (I mix it with everything...sweet potatoes, apple sauce, etc).
Yogurt
string cheese
bananas
frozen lima beans (good for teething relief)
familia (whole grain baby cereal)
edemame (you can get a huge bag at costco. This is her absolute fave)
Pasta with cheese, butter and spinach
I've made smoothies with berries and bannanas. You should try making a smoothie with bannana strawberries and milk and make your own popcicles out of it...maybe she'll go for that?
Have you tried congee with fish or chicken? That's what a lot of babies in China are used to eating.
Sometimes I have to give Eliza the bowl on her high chair tray and put a spoon in each of her hands to occupy them and then feed her.
Eliza is not a fussy eater, but maybe you can try some of these things? Hang in there!
e-mail me @ utahvisionteacher@yahoo.com if you want any other suggestions. I can give you my phone # and we can chat!

Lol, the most important thing for her right now is to see all her family members eating. What she actually eats is not as important right now. Seriously. I'm eating a great book called, Just Two More Bites. It's helping us. But we're trying not to sweat intake as much as healthy habits, like not eating while watching TV. You might enjoy the book. I'll show it to you when we get together tomorrow.

pS -- I just noticed all the mistakes I made in my comment. But, I'm using my b-berry. So, forgive. Thumbing it is creating brain processing issues for me. ;0)

What cute pictures! Emily will only eat Top Ramen, M&M's, juice, pears and mini marshmallows. She did gain 1/2 pound since her last doctor visit so maybe Top Ramen is a healthy diet!! Just kidding. We're hoping the formula three times a day will help. Hang in there with the food. Glad to know it is not just Emily...maybe it is a Hubei thing!

I am really excited to see Maylin this coming July! Y'all make a great, cute family! Tell Alex that my favorite baseball team is the Twins...That means I need to come see him play. I have heard great things about his baseball talent.

I love these pictures! I'm sorry it has been so long since I posted a comment. Every time I get on the computer there is something to get me off right away. I am so glad to hear she is bonding well. I hope you figure out her eating soon. If she ikes popsicles you could at leats make your own smooties that are healthy and freeze them.

Maylin's room

Here is an update on painting. The doors continue to be a nightmare. We don''t have doors on the girls bathroom and no doorknobs on any of the other doors. Hopefully next week. I love everything else. Many of you asked about the glaze in the kitchen. It is an oil based glaze that comes in black, white, brown. You roll it on with a small roller and then take it off with a rag, by blotting it. You can make it darker or lighter depending on how much you put on and how much you take off. Here are pictures of Maylin's room. I was scared to make a change with 2 colors, but I think I like it. I don't know if you can tell but on the pink paint it is a wash (first white swirly, then pink) with light white flowers like the top pink ones. I picked words to go around her room that may inspire her. The Chinese translation is underneath. Of course, we used Meng, that was her first name...Meng ni and they called her Nini. The words are in vinyl and the flowers were painted using a pa...

Did I just hear that?

Today I was at W*lM*rt and I had the WEIRDEST experience. I can't wait to hear what you all have to say about it. I was at the self check out and the worker that handles those came over to Nini and put her hands on Nini's cheeks and literally put her nose against Nini's nose. Okay....don't know you, plus it is serious cold and flu season. I pulled the cart back quickly. The lady was talking to Nini and asking her how old she was and telling her how cute she is (she is that). Then she said to me, "where did you get her from?" That question threw me. I have been asked where she is from, what nationality she is, but never, "where did you get her from?" I said China, but was thinking, "does she think I got her from a store or something?" This was just the beginning of what was the MOST outrageous conversation I have ever been apart of. She asked me her name. I told her and she said, "Thank you! It makes me so happy to hear that name."...

Its been one year! Oh, make that two too.

I would have posted this earlier, but we didn't want to jinx ourselves, but today July 17 is the two year mark of Austin's 3rd open heart surgery and our year mark for his 4th. This date will always be firmly ingrained in our brains as both surgeries, how ironic, fell on July 17, 2007 and 2008. Austin has been nervous as this day approached. I think he asked me every day since July 1, if I thought he would be okay and make it through the date. This week he has had increased rhythm problems so his heart med has been increased. I am wondering if it wasn't stress or worry induced. He wanted to spend the day at the hospital, thanking those he knew. Unfortunately, Alex was too sick to go. Maybe it was for the best. I didn't know it I could be there on this day. Anyway, please celebrate with us!!! We made it a year....surgery free!! On July 24 it will be our year anniversary from our 5th open heart. Here's wishing we make it through that date too! We send gratitude to our...
