Hannah Montana

Saturday, Jay took McKenzie to the Hannah Montana/Miley Sirus concert. For those of you who don't know who she is, she is Disney's latest "HIT" for tweens. Her Disney show is about a girl living a double life..one as a normal girl and one as a rock star Hannah Montana. Miley is her real name and for you '80's folk her dad is Billy Ray Sirus. Now doesn't that make you feel old? McKenzie loved it!! The Jonus Brothers opened for Hannah/Miley. (She did half the show as Hannah and the other half as herself. If that makes sense at all.)Here are some photos of the concert and a few shots of what Maylin and I did at home while everyone else was at a concert or Halloween party. Maylin would look at herself in the mirror and do a down right belly laugh. She thought she was so funny. She tickled herself pink!

The Three Bears

Once upon a time, the air became chilly. So mama bear got out the coats. The Austin bear tried his on and YIPPEE, it was just right. Good thing, he had only worn it one year. Then the McKenzie bear and the Alex bear tried on their coats. BOO, they were too small. And of course little Maylin bear didn't have a coat at all except for the one with snow pants that came from the orphanage and that is put safely away. So mama headed out to buy new coats. Kenzie bear wanted one with fur. Mama bear hunted and hunted and finally found one. Best news, she actually LIKED IT! Score one for mama bear. Mama bear bought Alex bear a size 10/12. Heck he will be only 9 on the 29th of Oct. But guess what? It was too small. This time mama bear bought Alex bear a size 14/16 and it fit! Only problem...Alex bear said to mama bear, "Is my coat grey?" Mama bear said no. Alex bear said, "Is it green?" Mama Bear said no. Alex bear said, "Is it red?" Mama bear said, "No, it...

Three Names of Me

I bought this book called "The Three Names of Me" by Mary Cummings. It is so wonderful, I had to share my find! The author has an adopted daughter from China named Ada. This story follows her feelings about her 3 names. The first, the one her birth mother probably planned on naming her and whispered to her just after birth (that's where I started to cry), the second name was the one from the orphanage and the third name is the one her adoptive parents gave her. It tells what each name means for Ada and how she incorporates each name into who she is now. It is so beautiful! At the back of the book Ada gives suggestions for other adoptive girls of things to scrapbook or journal. She even says, " I am sharing some things I have scrapbooked since we probably have a lot in common." Truly a book Maylin will relate with when she gets older. I appreciated the sweet tribute and thoughts it gave about the biological mother. This book touched my heart!! I found it through ...

Weekend recap

The last few days have been really frustrating, tiring, busy, overwhelming, discouraging, yet often spiked with a bit of humor and joy. I have felt so much pressure getting from here to there and back again, helping with homework, cleaning my house, taking care of everyday duties plus some extra ones, that I really feel like I can't please everyone. Maybe I should say anyone. All I have heard from my youngest son this weekend is, "You never feed us." Hummmm, I wonder what I have been doing all those hours in the kitchen? My daughter says I am mean and my oldest actually told me this weekend to leave him alone. Wow! That one hurt. I guess he really will be 15 in 2 months. Enough of the complaints. On to the moments of humor and joy. First thanks to all for the comments, suggestions, well wishes for Maylin. They really helped. Its nice to have support. Second , the test went well. She was great during the set-up which consisted of mounds of wires being attached to her head...

The Brain

We have a brain scan tomorrow for Maylin. Will let you all know. Also Kenzie is in a production at her school on Friday. She is so excited. Will post pictures. And the big news, or at least all the kids think so, Jay bought them a go-cart. Will have pictures later along with the results of the scan.

The things they learn

The other night my boys were down in the basement watching a movie. I am not sure what happened in their heads, but something transpired. I don't think I will ever know, but the results....table skiing. They laid the card table part way down, put a chair at the top and then began "skiing" down the table. They were having a great time! Maylin just stood and watched them forever. Next night, we were down stairs and she heads over to the table, climbs up the chair and thank heavens, slid down on her belly (not feet as brothers did). She loved it! She laughs all the way down. I about have a heart attack every time, but hey, what do you do. Pediatrician appointment is Monday morning. Will give an update later.** Later: The pediatrician says that it is the "forgetting to breathe thing" that children suffer from between the ages of 6 months to 2 years of age. We knew that. He said it happens because the brain is developing so fast, that sometimes it struggles in this a...

Enemy Number 1, 2 and 3

Maylin is such a fun girl. She handles most anything without missing a beat. However, there are 3 things that stop her cold! She gets this horrible look on her face and cries tears of true fear when she comes in contact with these things. What are they you ask? Number 1: Whoopi Cushions. Yep. They terrify her. Her brothers have one and she hates it when the sit on it. She screams in terror and holds on to me like nothing else. This fear is so bad she even cries when she sees it flat just laying on the floor. If she walks into the room and sees it there, she yelps and leaves the room. No joke. Number 2: Mr. Noodles of Sesame Street fame. Bought her Baby Einstein...thanks for the recommendation Nate. She loves it, but I was getting a little tired of the one we have. Went to buy another and they were sold out, so I bought Elmo's World. She LOVED it, that is until Mr. Noodle appears on screen, then it is a fearful cry just like the Whoopi Cushion. Guess we will be giving the DVD away. ...

Passing Footballs and Passing Out

Football! A man's dream. In this case a little boy's dream. Alex lives and breathes for football. He has done really well and he has had a great time with it. Below are some pictures. In the second picture he has just ripped off the kid's flag. You can see his arm is up to show the referee. He was playing halfback and ran the ball in for a touchdown. No picture, I was to busy jumping up and down. Now on the passing out. Yea, it is a little trick Maylin has. She cries, forgets to breathe and turns blue and sometimes passes out. Yep, real great huh?! Kinda freaks you out, but it is cool to see how the body knows how to calm itself down. Maylin has only done it 3 times in the last 2 months. The latest being last night when she got hurt. We talked to our pediatrician about it and he gave us some medication options, but since it has only been three times in the last 2 months, we are just dealing with it. Note her pictures below: Maylin was having chips and salsa. She loves it an...

To big for her britches.

Hope you can see the black across Maylin's eye. Yup, its mascara! Guess she watches me closer than I thought. Its funny how observant she is. When we do her hair we always say pretty, so now when we do her hair she shakes her head and says pretty. Grandma and Grandpa came for a visit today. She loved them! She calls them both bapa. And she would flirt....I am not kidding with Grandpa. Got some great shots of Alex and football I want to share next!

No words needed.
