The good ole days, they make me cry.

Today, I was going through some of the professional photos that I didn't choose. When I saw the ones of Austin and Alex together I cried. They were so cute. The photog caught them tickling each other, poking each other; ya know just being brothers. She also caught me being silly. The photog was trying to do pictures of me, Jay and Austin. I decided to just flop across their laps to be funny.  I had completely forgotten about that moment until I saw the pictures. It is funny to see Austin trying to remain composed with a smile on his face, where as Jay just shows that he is having a hard time supporting my weight. They are great shots. Sometimes the photos that catch the really family or people are better than the posed ones we chose. At least that is how I feel today.       Alex tried to go to school today for 2 hours. He spent that time with a math teacher who taught him the 6 lessons he has missed, but the rest was spent with ...

Mono

Mono and I don't mean monotone. Alex has the mono associated with kissing. However, his better not be. Alex started sleeping about three weeks ago....and I mean sleeping a lot. He would sleep 10-12 hour nights and then sleep on the way home from school many times, as well as take a 2 hour nap in between school and basketball. His teacher even started to complain that he was sleeping in class and on field trips....on the floor, in his desk, against walls.....you get the idea. Last Saturday, February 15 Alex said he didn't feel like himself. Sunday he said the same thing. He said his insides were shaking and he just didn't feel right. By Monday he had a headache, stomach ache, and an awful rash in his armpits and down the sides of his chest. On Tuesday he had a sore throat and body aches and the rash was across his face.  Obviously, he didn't go to school those days. Wednesday morning he woke up perfectly fine. So, he went to school. He was fine until basketball pract...

Valentine's Day, a devotional, a party, the ACT, the dentist and a basketball game.

Today started when we left the house at 7:30 am. We didn't get home until 8:15 p.m. I was on carpool both ways to school today. I had Kenzie's devotional in the morning and Maylin's party in the afternoon. Since we live so far away, I just decided to stay rather than drive for 25 minutes each way only to be home about 20 minutes. Kenzie's 11th grade did a devotional today for Veterans. Kenzie had a solo. However, at the last minute the teacher threw in another girl, but the girl didn't sing loud, so all I could hear was Kenzie anyway! She did great and looked pretty too. Her voice was awesome. Then I brought in all the supplies for Maylin's party. After that, I left and took my self to lunch for Valentine's Day. I was the ONLY person in the restaurant that was alone. Oh well. I splurged and had cheese on my sandwich and I got a macaroon! That is a huge deal for me since I have given up cheese and sweets. It was delicious. I had someone come up to me...

Opposites attract

A few weeks ago, McKenzie made a candy bar card for a boy in her grade asking him to the girl's choice dance at their school. He answered her back with a box of candy in which one of the pieces had an answer hid in it. The theme for the dance was opposites. Kenzie and her tutor came up with the idea that she would go as Dairy Queen and he would go as Burger King. Jay and I divided the restaurants up, he took BK, and I took DQ. We both collected hamburger wrappers, cups, bags, gift card holders and crowns from BK to be used in the costumes. I printed off large logos from the internet. Here Kenzie is trying to trace the DQ while I did the BK. It made her too nervous, so I did them both.....with her watching over my shoulder, I was pretty nervous too. I think they turned out great. I wrote on the back of the t-shirts who they were: Burger King on his and Dairy Queen on hers. I also made them scepters from the items I collected and I decorated the crowns...

This will be me in 11 months.

Austin will be home in 11 months! While, I am so glad he is on a mission and I actually will miss the experiences he is having, there still is a part of me that misses him terribly. I found this video today. Cried through it. That will be me soon! The last mother in the video is my favorite. Welcome Home!

First grade devotional

Last Thursday, January 31, Maylin had her first grade devotional. Each grade does one during the year. Her devotional was about Joseph Smith and the LDS pioneers who came to Utah. She had 6 lines that she completely memorized about a young pioneer boy named Alma. She also had a whole class memorization.  They sang songs through out the program too. She was darling. It made me cry to see my little girl, well not so little girl now, be so confident in presenting her part. She is fabulous. Waiting for it to start. Doing her class memorization.
