Another 5K

Last weekend, yep I am soooo behind, but with graduation and all its activities I can't keep up, anyway we participated in an Intermountain Healing Hearts 5K. The Brown family came too, which made it extra fun! With my hurt hamstring I had to walk. Austin wanted to run it. That made me nervous, but off he went and I couldn't exactly do anything about it. Finally along the course when I saw how hilly it was, I ran to try to find Austin to see if he was okay. Of course,he had overdone it and was now walking. We walked the rest of the way together. Alex and his friend kept up with the Browns. Austin and I came in at 42 minutes and some odd seconds. Alex came in at 28 minutes. The Browns were at 23 minutes and less. Jay and Maylin came in dead last. Kim Brown and I walked the course backward to find them. It was so cute to see Jay with Maylin on his shoulders, her hands full of dandelions and leaves. They had a great time. The police who guided the route, waited patiently for Jay a...

Congenital Heart Defects - Top 10 reasons to date someone with one!

A few weeks ago, Kenzie and I attended with Kim Brown and daughter, a luncheon for mothers with children with congenital heart defects. It was a great day. Each woman there took a moment and told about their child. Some mothers told about their little children that had passed on. One sweet mother adopted a baby with the same defect as Austin and at 2 months old had the same surgery Austin had at birth, but her baby died during it. The sweet baby died in March. Obviously, Austin is truly a miracle. My heart was broken, yet was filled with gratitude. As I stood and told the group that my child was 18 and was living with Hypo-plastic Right Heart, Pulmonary Atresia, VSD and a bad tricuspid valve, I got applause. I was the mother of the oldest living child there. What a blessing. I was so humbled. Afterward several mothers with babies living with the same defect came up and asked me questions about what life was like raising him and did I ever stop being afraid of him. I told them yes, but ...

Politically correct. Have we gone to far?

I usually try to stay politically neutral on this blog. But today, no way. I was watching The Vi*w this morning add that to the L*w & Ord*r show I watched the other night and I am hot under the collar. I rarely watch TV, but today, I did....for about 10 minutes. Now I am upset and wondering what is going on in our country? First..they said there was a campaign to get rid of Cookie Monster. He makes kids eat cookies. I don't know if I believe that. I have never seen cookie monster at my house shoving a cookie down my kids' throats. They do that by themselves, but only when WE CHOOSE to have cookies in the house. I am sure when I was little I saw Cookie Monster eating a cookie and wanted one, but I didn't do it every time and I didn't eat the whole bag (like I do now when my kids stress me out....hey, maybe kids need to be banned.) Second they said there is a campaign to get rid of Ronald McDonald because his image makes kids want to eat bad food? Seriously? Seriously...

Last School Dance

Tonight was the kids' last school dance for the year. Jay and I were Chaperons. The dance was for those who were 14 and older. Sixteen and older could bring dates. It was such a pleasure to get to attend with them. It was amazing! It was the most fun dance I have been too or seen. Highlights of the night were to see Kenzie looking so pretty in her beautiful dress for the occasion, Austin with his date and friends, watching Austin do the Senior Strut with the other Senior boys (there are about 14 of them) and seeing both kids have so much fun!         I am glad Austin had fun...today was an emotional day for him. He realized that today was the last time he would wear his Friday uniform. It really meant something to him and he was sad to realize that today was it. I am having a hard time with it too. His school experience has been incredible. ****Had a question about what a Friday uniform is. The kids wear uniforms everyday, but on Friday it is dress up. The boys wear ...

What did you say?

Happy Mother's Day to everyone. We just returned from a trip to see my parents. It was great to see them. We had a nice family dinner yesterday and it was great to see everyone, especially my new great-niece Hadley who was born a week ago! So cute!!!! I hurt my ham string on the 5K, it was no big deal....then finished it off in Zumba on Tuesday. I have been in physical therapy and have been laying low on the exercise.:( Hopefully it will be better for the 5K I have coming up! Austin has been sick this week and I am trying to get sick, but so far I am holding it off! Here are a few funny quotes and one "Ugh....where did you get that from" quote from the week. Maylin: I love you mom. Me: I love you too. Maylin: I love you more. Me: No, I love you more. Maylin: No, I love you the most. Me: No, I love you the most. Maylin: Bawling "Stop it. Just let me love you the most." Sheesh....okay. You love me the most. Leaving Walmart.... Maylin: "I better hold on to th...

The day after

I am sore. I am fine as long as I am moving, but if I sit at all and then try to move again it hurts. I am surprised especially since I work out so much. I guess I really haven't raced before so I am thinking I went faster than normal and I usually don't run as much. When I do 3 miles I usually only run a mile of it. Yesterday I did more than that. I wore heels today. BIG mistake. Alex is sore too. He has a heating pad on his legs. Austin is beat. He felt great yesterday, but today he is suffering. I think he over did it. It has slept most of the day. We are going to do another one on the 21st to raise money for children with congenital heart defects. That is worth the pain we are feeling today.
