Chicken Coop or Condo?

This week Austin and Jay have been building a place for the chickens. They really don't have a plan, they are just following some different ideas from neighbors. So it will be a combo deal. Jay can't decide if it will be the simple version....a coop or the more deluxe... a condo. By the rate I keep adding chicks (we are up to 14) we will need a complex. I just keep finding fun varieties that look cool and different colored eggs. I am done now though. Maylin loved watching the men work. Of course, they would have got more done, but they kept stopping and loving her.

"Spits"

Maylin has a new trick. The other day she said, "Watch. Spits." That translates to "watch me do the splits." Sure enough the girl starts spreading her legs apart until they get far enough apart she drops to the ground in the splits. She watched Kenzie enough that she now copies her on her own. I am not sure where my two flexible daughters came from. I can't even touch my toes. Must get it from their dad.

Goofy Girl

Sometimes life can get heavy. It is so nice to have Maylin around who brings a breath of fresh air and lightens things up with her silly personality. Maylin loves Taylor Swift. In fact, when we get in the car, the first thing she says is, "Mom, Tay yer. Two mom." That means "mom play Taylor, track two please." As soon as the song starts she begins to clap and rock out. She even knows some of the words and actually sings along. She also loves Popular from the Wicked Soundtrack. She will say "Pop, Mom" and so we listen to it over and over again. She knows some of the words to that too. She also will be walking around the house and will all of a sudden, stop and say "pose" and she will put one hand on the back of her head, one hand on her hip and then she willstick her bottom way out. It truly is a pose. She learned it from her sister, but man she has it down pat. What a diva. The other day when we were at the grocery store I had to bribe her to sta...

The face of trouble

I have been reading several blogs out there and have read that many are having, let's say trouble with their toddlers. I think since it is so wide spread it has to do something with Spring. I really think that now that Spring is in the air, these little ones are feeling the excitement and the anticipation of being outside in the warm sun. These feeling only know how to come out in forms of trouble. Today for example, nice Nini as she was just calling herself yesterday, drew her first piece of artwork....on the wall. We have had it on the tile before and on the door, but never the walls. Can I just tell you how hard it is to get off a giant scribble made from eye liner? Yep, it doesn't come off like crayon, pen or pencil. While I am cleaning if off, Kenzie comes in to watch and Maylin called her "stup" that means stupid. Nice, real nice. I guess she deserved it, since she and her brothers are the ones she heard the word from. So I made Maylin stand with her nose to the...

Pinewood Derby and Nini Nice

Last year at the Pinewood Derby, Alex came in dead last. They gave him the award for the most fuel efficient. This didn't sit well with my very competitive child. He cried and complained for months. So this year, the tension and pressure was upon us as parents to ensure there wasn't a repeat. Luckily he came in 18th out of 24 this year. He was happy just not to be last. Maylin enjoyed the whole thing. She thought it was quite exciting. Below are some pictures. The last picture is of Maylin and her friend. This is the first time they had played together. Every time the poor little girl touched one of Maylin's toys she would hit her, grab her hair, yell, you get the idea. After the little girl went home, she kept asking for her to come back. I told Maylin she wouldn't come back unless she was nice and didn't hit her. It must have stuck because now she asks for the little girl by name and says while shaking her head, "Nini nice! No hit." They had a second pla...

Here she is!

Finally, I got Jay to teach me how to use the scanner! Aren't the pictures darling? They turned out cute, even though the experience was anything but cute. You know its bad when you are apologizing to someone you don't even know for your child's behavior and you are blaming that behavior on anything you can think of. The first two in the peach outfit were great. Maylin was so happy to be there, but after that, everything went down hill. The rest of the photos are of her waist up because she had to have me hold her and I had to be "cut out." The experience was just as memorable as the cute photos are! She is definatly a keeper!! SPECIAL NOTE: Happy birthday to Maylin's friend,Emily and to my friend, Anita. ALSO a Happy Birthday on the 15th to my hubby and my niece, Julia. We hope they all have a great birthday and we love them all!!!!!

Chicks

I know exactly what my mother and my sister are saying as they read this blog. I think it will go something like this, "Oh Laurel. What are you doing?" or "Oh Laurel, don't you already have enough?" The answer is "I don't know what I am doing" and the other answer is "yes, I have enough." They are right. They always are. Wise, wise, women, but I am a sucker. Sent Jay to the store tonight to pick up two more baby chicks. We had one chick die right after we got it, so I wanted to replace it. They had new varieties at the local IFA and I thought it would be fun to have a different style and egg color. Well, my dear hubby, came home with 5 baby chicks! That gives us 9. I started to get upset at him, but he is so sweet and was so excited about his purchase, what could I do? Anyway, take a look at how much our first chicks have grown in just a few weeks. Amazing! Next, see our new additions. Once again, sorry mom...I know I am a little whacked....

I have waited my whole life for this

Today, as usual, Maylin begged to go see a horse. I kept putting her off until her little friend came over and wanted to play. I thought this would be a great time to walk them to the horses. We got there and the neighbor was out. I said hi and explained Maylin was stalking her horses and we were at her house several times a week and that I hoped she didn't mind. She said she didn't and in fact would love to take the little horse lover for a ride!!! The little boy with us, summed up the day when he said, "Laurel, I have been waiting my whole life for this." My sweet neighbor (who I really don't know) let them brush the horse, and took them for about a 30 minute ride and when Maylin was tired of the little pony, she saddled up the big one. Man, talk about a good neighbor. Maylln wasn't scared at all. In fact, when it was time to go, she cried and said "more horse." So the sweet neighbor said, "I will walk you home." She walked us home, kids ...

Pictures

Took Maylin to get her 2 year old pictures. She did great the first two and then she wanted nothing but mama, so the next 4 shots were taken with her on my lap and they had to crop me out of them. They still turned out cute. I felt sorry for the photographer. Maylin would yell "no" to everything she said. She fell asleep before I could even check out the proofs. I think that was a lot of the problem. At least I hope...I hope it isn't that she was acting like a two year old! hee hee Will post them when Jay gets home from his business trip. I don't know how to scan them in.

How we spend our days: Part 2

Okay people, today I had one of those heart pounding, you are going to throw-up, mother moments. You know, well at least I hope you do, those moments when your kids do something that scares you so bad your heart skips a beat. I hope I am not the only one who has kids who do stupid things. Before the story, here is some back ground. Besides horses, Maylin spends her extra time dressing up and applying make-up. It is driving me crazy at this point. I have hidden the make-up, so now she uses markers, pens, crayons etc. What to do, what to do? Anyway, from the pictures you can see she spends her time riding any fake horse she can find and then spends the rest of the time curling her eyelashes, putting on lip stick and doing her eyes. The girl has a nose for it. She will even find where I have hidden the make-up and climb to get it. She has broken the tips off all my lipsticks! Okay so on to the story. I was putting Kenzie's laundry away in her room, which is directly across from the ba...
