Happy birthday to the best!

When I was pregnant with Alex and given the due date of November 7, I was secretly hoping he would come 10 days early so he could share a birthday with my father. When my water broke at 11:30 p.m. the 28th of October, I called my dad waking him up to tell him he would have a grandson on his 70th birthday. Sure enough, just 4 hours later, Alex was born at 3:30 a.m. on the 29th. He weighed in at 9 pds 3 oz and was 22 1/2 inches long. We named him Alex Glenn in honor of my father Glenn. They have celebrated their birthdays together every year. Some years it is a week or so early, but we make a point of getting them together. Here are some pictures of the party with my father last week (the spider cake was made by my sister for last week's party)and ones taken tonight at our own party. I love these two. And am grateful for them. P.S. The cake is a 10 pound Epic Chocolate Cake. It has 1500 calories per slice. We all shared one slice tonight. It was fantastic! HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOYS! Alex ...

Tagged and Trick or Treat -UPDATED

My dear friend Anita tagged me. I should just copy her list of 7 and put it here. All but 2 were things I would say. So here are my 7 things. Took me a bit to come up with some original ones. UPDATE: I messed up. Only need six things. And I didn't say anything about the rules. Man, I am getting old. So, You list 6 unspectacular things about yourself, you mention the person who tagged you and you mention the rules. Also you tag 6 people. 1. I love raspberries. 2. I love Dancing with the Stars. 3. I love the smell of clean clothes. 4. I love soft skin. 5. I love every color. 6. I try hard to please everyone. 7. I love string cheese. - an extra one for fun! I tag Erin (I know two of you), Becky W., Lisa S., Beverly, Glenda and anyone else who wants to play. We decorated for Halloween awhile ago. My kids love it. Unfortunately, Maylin hates it. She does not like anything scary. We put our decorations up on our porch and now she will not walk out on our porch or on our front lawn unless...

Grosgrain: Marie-Thérèse Gown GIVEAWAY!!!!

Fit for a Queen! Grosgrain: Marie-Thérèse Gown GIVEAWAY!!!! I cannot sew. My mother tried to teach me. I made a few things, but the things weren't worth or good enough to justify the frustration. My sister and my niece have that natural born ability. I guess some people have different talents. Here is a site that belongs to a woman named Kathleen. Man can she sew. I don't know her, but she obviously has great talent. Take a moment to look at the things she has made. Even enter to win the dress mentioned above. It is incredible!

And the winner is....

Everyone! Yep, that is right, Austin and his debate partner walked away with a tie. After 4 rounds of preliminaries, two teams met for the final debate. Both teams did well. Both teams scored 685 points. Both teams will receive trophies. To me, since I hate to see anyone lose, this was a great ending. Austin of course wanted the official kill. We are so glad to see him happy and healthy. These are pictures of Austin and his partner and the team they debated against. Also there is a picture of Austin in actual debating action! Isn't he cute?! Austin also had a big post-surgery doctor's visit this past week. The doctor said everything looked great. He has gained all his pre-surgery weight back...except for 2pounds! This is thrilling since it took us a year last time. Things went well enough we are now on the 6 month doctor visit plan. That is such an improvement. Instead of sending reports every two weeks to the hospital we can go to every month. We send reports by hooking Austi...

Makes you smile

We look a little trip to Idaho this weekend to see my family. My dad and Alex share a b-day on the 29th, so we went up for an early party. It is a big one...Alex turns 10 and my dad turns 80! I will have pictures of the big event. I just wanted to post a few funny things that Maylin said. She cracked us up all weekend. We can't believe how much she has grown. Kinda sad. Where has our baby gone? First, she apparently really listens and then stores every and I mean every thing we say. For example, Jay was trying to find her jacket. He finally finds it and she says, "Good job, dad. Proud of you." So cute and I am glad she repeats some positive things. Also, all weekend she kept making Alex sit in a time out chair. She would shake her finger at him and say, "You in twuble." Hmmmm. On the long car ride home she got out a book and said to me, "Mom, me reading. Turn off music. Please." That was a lot of words! And she was polite!!!! Woot Woot. Then in the car...

New blog look!

Guess you have noticed....we have a new look! I am totally excited. I was seeing everyone else having these fancy, up-to-date blogs with personality plus and ours well, was kinda lame. So you know, I did not do this. Blogs by Danielle did. Isn't she great?! All I did was pick the paper, come up with a title and a sub-title, and send the pictures. Danielle did the rest. We all love it! I keep checking in to see if it is real and it is!

What makes a good day GREAT!

I am so happy! I have been checking out everyone's blogs today. My internet has been down for 3 days. My hubby was in Nevada (Thanks Liz for feeding my hubby while he was in town)on a business trip installing a new computer system for a new business. So when the computer man is away....we have nada. You know no one to fix it. SO it has been a thrill to catch up! If I didn't comment on everyone's it was just that I was enjoying all the reading and catching up SO much I didn't have time. My son summed in up when he said, "How did we live without the internet." To be honest, I am not sure. It is a wondeful way to keep up with dear friends and far-away family, do homework, find phone numbers, read the news...I could go on and on! Anyway, while we were competely cut off from the world here are a few things that made our week not just good, but great! Maylin was eating Swedish Fish when she fell asleep, I picked her up to move her to her bed and a stray fish was ser...

Real talent

I tell you what, my Alex loves sports and is pretty good at them too. He has had an excellent year at flag football. During his game this past Tuesday, Alex scored 4 touchdowns. And during the one yesterday, he had 1 interception and 2 touchdowns...pretty good cause his ole wacky mother got him to the game 45 minutes late so he only played 15 minutes. Also, he burped the ABC's for us at dinner tonight.....hey that's hard! I told you he had talent. Also, Jay has been working TONS. This is the first game he had been able to attend. Notice how much he watched? He was checking his email, but fell asleep. I didn't wake him. Poor guy.

The difference between raising a teenager and a two-year old.

This past year with Maylin in our family has been a complete joy. I wouldn't change a minute. The only thing that has really been hard has been having teenagers and a toddler at the same time. It is really hard (those of you who have done it, understand I am sure) to be at the teenagers activities as well as trying to be at home enough that the toddler has a schedule and that the toddler doesn't spend their afternoons stuck in a carseat running kids around. It is also hard dealing with both of their temper tantrums. What have I learned? That there is NO difference between a teen and a toddler. Sorry out there for my teen readers. I am sure there are definitely some exceptions. However, in my case...there is not a difference. To any of you have have raised both at the same time....let me know how you feel and how you made it. Please!!!! Pretty Please. So what brought this whole thing to this conclusion. Hummmmm....could it be this past week that was filled with two-year old anti...

Another Gotcha Day!

Our friends the Whites, had their Gotcha Day yesterday. You can look at their sweet 8 month old here.... www.waitingforanya.blogspot.com . I tired to do the link thing, but couldn't get it to work. So type it in until someone (anyone out there in blogland) can help me with that link. Hint, hint, that was a help me someone plea! *****AS you can see, I did it, thanks to by blogger friends!! I don't know anything about blogging. I see everyone's cute blogs and I am amazed. I feel just grateful I can post. Hee hee hee. Thanks again!!!!

Eventful week

We have had quite an eventful week at our house. Sometimes I forget to post what happened or the news, for the "Oh that is so cute" post. So here is some of what has happened. Austin- Austin is in debate. He won his very first debate tournament this past week. He debated on " should the military draft be reinstated or not ." He will be in the finals in a couple of weeks. He is struggling in geometry so we have hired a tutor...yep I am no help in geometry and his dad is never home. He seems to be catching on with the little bit of extra help. He was also able to start back up with piano lessons. His arm that was in a sling gets tired quickly, but the piano will be a great way to get it in shape again. He also has felt very well this week. In fact he said, "I have waited my whole life to feel this good." Melted my heart. Alex - Alex is playing flag football. Last game he scored 2 touchdowns. He loves it. He was also asked this week to be the center on a 5th ...

7 things

My friend Susan tagged me...so here are my 7 things. 1. My idea of sewing is staples and a glue gun. 2. I love to garden and cook new things every day. 3. I met Oprah, Robert Redford and Art Linkletter in the airport. 4. I am insecure. 5. My closest sibling to me is 16 years older. 6. I am afraid of elevators. 7. I love ice cream for breakfast.

Gymnastics

Maylin is taking two gymnastic classes (Mom and tot) at two different gyms. She goes twice a week for 45 minutes each. She loves it!! On the days we don't go she asks, "Go gymnastics, mom? Me miss gymnastics." She is really comfortable on the bars. The teachers can't get over how strong she is. She is a bit afraid of the beam...I don't blame her at all. We have fun together at gym. The moms do all the warms ups and the cool downs and then in between we help with spotting our child. It is great.
