A Texas Thanksgiving and no, chiggers, please!

We have been in Texas for Thanksgiving. We haven't been there for a few years due to Aus' health. It was fun to see everyone and Jay and his nephew enjoyed their time at home.

The kids enjoyed the acres. They loved the pet quails, the motor bikes, the frogs, the pond and cousins. Alex loved his little pet frog...he is pictured on Alex's head. Austin learned to ride the motorcycle very quickly! He got it on his second try! Jay loved being on a bike again. Even though I knew he was an accident waiting to happen.

There were only two pictures of me from the whole trip. The one below and the last one, that only shows the bottom half of my head. I guess that is what happens to moms.

We had Thanksgiving in a cool barn. We had time with cool cousins and we ate lots of great pie.

I got eaten alive, and continue to be so, by chiggers. I hate those things. Apparently they love me. I have covered them all with finger nail polish and washed them with bleach. I hear this helps kill them. I have washed all my clothes in HOT water. Apparently, they can live through a warm or cold wash and reinfect you! Boo, hoo, hoo. SO GROSS!! According to Google, "Chiggers are tiny, six-legged wingless organisms (larvae) that grow up to become a type of mite. Chiggers are found in tall grass and weeds. Their bite causes severe itching. The preferred feeding locations (I love that phrase. NOT)on people are parts of the body where clothing fits tightly over the skin such as around the belt line, waistline, under girdles and under socks, or where the flesh is thin, tender or wrinkled such as the ankles, in the armpits, back of the knees, in front of the elbow, or in the groin." All I know is they suck and they are NOT kidding about the "intense itching." I think I may just tear off my skin. I didn't even go into tall grass. I ran quickly through the short, mowed lawn to get Maylin who got a sticker in her toe, but that was it. By the looks of me, you would think I bathed in them.

I am grateful for so many things. Here is my top 10!
1. Heavenly Father, His son, the Holy Ghost
2. My family
3. My home and yard
4. Prayer
5. Parents
6. Kind words
7. Food (chocolate)
8. Stars
9. Spring
10.Sleep

Wow chiggers! Never heard of them,
hopefully youbrid yourself of them soon! I am thankful to know you but slightly envious of those friends who might see you more than Tess and me!

Oh you poor girl, hope that the itching stops soon. Otherwise it sounds like a wonderful trip, so happy that Austin is doing so well and that you could make the trip this year.

Happy Thanksgiving!! Sounds like you had a great trip (except for those chiggers, holy moly, which I have never seen and hope to never see).

PS: The fact that there were only 1.5 pictures of you cracks me up!!! And I can SO relate. :-)

Good luck with the chiggers! I met them once in Missouri and that was plenty. Looks like you had a fun Thanksgiving even with 1 1/2 pictures. Em loved the pic of Alex with the frog! Loved your list.

We just about went to Texas for Thanksgiving - I'm kinda glad we didn't now! But without the knowledge of the chiggers, it looks like a blast!

Did I just hear that?

Today I was at W*lM*rt and I had the WEIRDEST experience. I can't wait to hear what you all have to say about it. I was at the self check out and the worker that handles those came over to Nini and put her hands on Nini's cheeks and literally put her nose against Nini's nose. Okay....don't know you, plus it is serious cold and flu season. I pulled the cart back quickly. The lady was talking to Nini and asking her how old she was and telling her how cute she is (she is that). Then she said to me, "where did you get her from?" That question threw me. I have been asked where she is from, what nationality she is, but never, "where did you get her from?" I said China, but was thinking, "does she think I got her from a store or something?" This was just the beginning of what was the MOST outrageous conversation I have ever been apart of. She asked me her name. I told her and she said, "Thank you! It makes me so happy to hear that name."...

Maylin's room

Here is an update on painting. The doors continue to be a nightmare. We don''t have doors on the girls bathroom and no doorknobs on any of the other doors. Hopefully next week. I love everything else. Many of you asked about the glaze in the kitchen. It is an oil based glaze that comes in black, white, brown. You roll it on with a small roller and then take it off with a rag, by blotting it. You can make it darker or lighter depending on how much you put on and how much you take off. Here are pictures of Maylin's room. I was scared to make a change with 2 colors, but I think I like it. I don't know if you can tell but on the pink paint it is a wash (first white swirly, then pink) with light white flowers like the top pink ones. I picked words to go around her room that may inspire her. The Chinese translation is underneath. Of course, we used Meng, that was her first name...Meng ni and they called her Nini. The words are in vinyl and the flowers were painted using a pa...

Happily ever after

NieNie Dialogues: April 15, 2019 Christian is the most important person in Stephanie's life. She made this post about him. She wrote about how much she loved him and he loved her. Every year she dedicates a song to him as they enter another year as husband and wife. She said, "Everyday I pray to God, thanking him for Christian. I thank God that he is my husband, my protector, and greatest defender. I thank God that Christian loves and respects me.......And I thank God that I will be with Christian forever and even to infinity and beyond." I am not married, but I related to this post because I love my dad. He is my protector and my provider. He really takes care of our family. He is so great. I can tell my mom loves him too. Even though it embarrasses me, I love to watch my parents hug and kiss. I am glad we are sealed together. After reading this post, I decided I needed to write in my journal characteristics I want in a husband. These are the things I wrote: Must l...
