The best way to start a new year.

What is the best way, ever, to start a new year? Its having a minor accident which involves a trip to the ER so you can hit your deductible right off....yep, 3 days into the new year. There really isn't anything better, that way you know you are free the rest of the year to have anything done. It really takes the pressure off and you know what kind of year it is going to be. It won't be 2010, where I listed no major health issues....it will be just the opposite or at least that is how it appears in just the first few days of 2011.

So what happened you ask? McKenzie was putting her backpack on after math, by the way it weighs about as much as she does. I told her it felt like there was a dead body in it. Any way, the teacher asked her a question just as she had thrown the backpack up on her right arm and she turned only to have that force pull her to the ground landing on her arm. I was called to the school and she was in serious pain. In the end, she has fractured two bones in her wrist. She has on a soft cast until we see the orthopedic doctor tomorrow.

Oh, people the year gets even better!!!!! While typing this post, Jay called me to tell me he hit black ice on the road and plowed into a little car in front of him. Guess we now have raised our car insurance premiums on day 4 of the new year! He wasn't hurt or was the guy he hit, thank heavens.

Quick question: Don't things come in 3's? If so that means one more! Keep you posted.

Oh no!! Things do come in threes, but I'd say your third thing will be something good! I am so sorry the new year has been rough. Looking forward to a good news post next. :)
Wow. That is a heavy backpack! I hope that Kenzie is feeling better and the casting and all that isn't too painful. And good news that Jay and other driver are ok- even if the premuim isn't :)

Poor Kenz! But it is a little bit funny that her backpack injured her! Too much homework!! I wish you had that on video. The car accident, not so much. I hope things look up!

Yikes! Maybe you can look at it this way, you got all the bad stuff over early and it will be happiness and smooth sailing the whole rest of the year! (We already know how much car insurance goes up after an accident because Kat was in one in November). Sorry. Oh yeah and casts, Eric had one of those in August..it was blue. Love ya!!!

Hope everything works out well.

Yikes!!! Not a great start to 2011 -- it can definitely only get better from here. Big hugs to McKenzie and so sorry about the broken bones. Ugh. And so glad Jay is ok. Black ice is some scary stuff.

Oh Laurel, I feel terrible that you have had a terriable start to the new year. Hopefully things will start looking up soon. At least Jay can't give you a hard time about your driving now that he has been in an accident. I hope that Kenzie gets a cute color cast, I can't wait to sign it! Here to a better year then the first week started out!

Oh dear. Hope Kenzie mends quickly, and that in your case, bad things don't come in 3's! Good luck!

Did I just hear that?

Today I was at W*lM*rt and I had the WEIRDEST experience. I can't wait to hear what you all have to say about it. I was at the self check out and the worker that handles those came over to Nini and put her hands on Nini's cheeks and literally put her nose against Nini's nose. Okay....don't know you, plus it is serious cold and flu season. I pulled the cart back quickly. The lady was talking to Nini and asking her how old she was and telling her how cute she is (she is that). Then she said to me, "where did you get her from?" That question threw me. I have been asked where she is from, what nationality she is, but never, "where did you get her from?" I said China, but was thinking, "does she think I got her from a store or something?" This was just the beginning of what was the MOST outrageous conversation I have ever been apart of. She asked me her name. I told her and she said, "Thank you! It makes me so happy to hear that name."...

Maylin's room

Here is an update on painting. The doors continue to be a nightmare. We don''t have doors on the girls bathroom and no doorknobs on any of the other doors. Hopefully next week. I love everything else. Many of you asked about the glaze in the kitchen. It is an oil based glaze that comes in black, white, brown. You roll it on with a small roller and then take it off with a rag, by blotting it. You can make it darker or lighter depending on how much you put on and how much you take off. Here are pictures of Maylin's room. I was scared to make a change with 2 colors, but I think I like it. I don't know if you can tell but on the pink paint it is a wash (first white swirly, then pink) with light white flowers like the top pink ones. I picked words to go around her room that may inspire her. The Chinese translation is underneath. Of course, we used Meng, that was her first name...Meng ni and they called her Nini. The words are in vinyl and the flowers were painted using a pa...

Happily ever after

NieNie Dialogues: April 15, 2019 Christian is the most important person in Stephanie's life. She made this post about him. She wrote about how much she loved him and he loved her. Every year she dedicates a song to him as they enter another year as husband and wife. She said, "Everyday I pray to God, thanking him for Christian. I thank God that he is my husband, my protector, and greatest defender. I thank God that Christian loves and respects me.......And I thank God that I will be with Christian forever and even to infinity and beyond." I am not married, but I related to this post because I love my dad. He is my protector and my provider. He really takes care of our family. He is so great. I can tell my mom loves him too. Even though it embarrasses me, I love to watch my parents hug and kiss. I am glad we are sealed together. After reading this post, I decided I needed to write in my journal characteristics I want in a husband. These are the things I wrote: Must l...
