Girls Camp

Kens and I just got back from a week long girls camp. It was a lot of fun. So glad I got to be with her again this year. I am more tired than I was last year. Maybe it is because I am a year older or maybe it is because there were so many girls this year (44) that I spent a lot of time running and chasing them around. I think that staying up past 2:00 a.m. several mornings didn't help my case.

This first collage shows our camp ground, the girls making washer necklaces, playing a game called "Witch, Ogre, Dragon" and the girls on the challenge course. I was in charge of running the teeter totter. The object was to get all the girls on the beam and then having them balance it for 5 seconds. There was another zip-line like last year, but I didn't even try. Instead of walking across a giant log 40 feet in the air, you walked across a metal cord. No thanks!

The next photo is of some of the camp pranks I pulled. On the "You've been mooned" I covered the cabin door and windows with moon pies. The door that has the Hostess Snowballs on it also has the pink sign that reads, "Snowball Fight!" It was fun. Also, we had some rain, Kens was so excited to wear her raincoat. The gold feather duster is an award I made for the cleanest cabin. The girls were so excited to compete against each other for this coveted prize!

These pictures show the skit night. These are of Kenzie's skit. It was so great. They rewrote the lyrics of some of the most famous Disney songs. I was amazed what these young girls did in an hour. The songs were amazing! They were talented.

This collage shows pictures of our hike. It was only 2 miles, but it was pretty much straight up. It started to rain, NO POUR, just as we began. We were drenched! I tried to make a little umbrella out of my big leaf. Some of the girls joined me. It was so fun!!!! Because of the rain, the trail became so muddy we had to hold on to the vegetation as we tried to go vertical. It was rainy, but one of the highlights. We had such a good time, drenched and all. Also, we took boats on a lake. The leaders had to ride in paddle boats. The girls were so funny in their canoes. They all came over to me and my partner and hooked on to our paddle boat. By the end we had 6 boats hooked to one side of our boat and 4 on the other. We would then paddle and try to slowly spin the boats. It was tough and we hardly moved, but it was so fun!!! The girls sang songs and did cheers and we had a great time. I wish I could have got a picture of our group, but since I was in the center, it was hard. I am so glad the girls like us!

One of the crafts for the week was burning wood with a magnifying glass. Man, the girls LOVED this. Kens burned a heart and her name in hers. Kens also won a princess award. She was awarded, "Princess Pat" after a song because she was always energized to participate.

Your pictures are great. It actually looks like a clean camping experience. I remember one year we blew dirt boogers for a week after. Yay for girl's camp!!!

I was just called as secretary in our YW last week. I'm so excited. Other than camp director one year, this is the first time I've been in YW since our Prairie days.

Did I just hear that?

Today I was at W*lM*rt and I had the WEIRDEST experience. I can't wait to hear what you all have to say about it. I was at the self check out and the worker that handles those came over to Nini and put her hands on Nini's cheeks and literally put her nose against Nini's nose. Okay....don't know you, plus it is serious cold and flu season. I pulled the cart back quickly. The lady was talking to Nini and asking her how old she was and telling her how cute she is (she is that). Then she said to me, "where did you get her from?" That question threw me. I have been asked where she is from, what nationality she is, but never, "where did you get her from?" I said China, but was thinking, "does she think I got her from a store or something?" This was just the beginning of what was the MOST outrageous conversation I have ever been apart of. She asked me her name. I told her and she said, "Thank you! It makes me so happy to hear that name."...

Maylin's room

Here is an update on painting. The doors continue to be a nightmare. We don''t have doors on the girls bathroom and no doorknobs on any of the other doors. Hopefully next week. I love everything else. Many of you asked about the glaze in the kitchen. It is an oil based glaze that comes in black, white, brown. You roll it on with a small roller and then take it off with a rag, by blotting it. You can make it darker or lighter depending on how much you put on and how much you take off. Here are pictures of Maylin's room. I was scared to make a change with 2 colors, but I think I like it. I don't know if you can tell but on the pink paint it is a wash (first white swirly, then pink) with light white flowers like the top pink ones. I picked words to go around her room that may inspire her. The Chinese translation is underneath. Of course, we used Meng, that was her first name...Meng ni and they called her Nini. The words are in vinyl and the flowers were painted using a pa...

Happily ever after

NieNie Dialogues: April 15, 2019 Christian is the most important person in Stephanie's life. She made this post about him. She wrote about how much she loved him and he loved her. Every year she dedicates a song to him as they enter another year as husband and wife. She said, "Everyday I pray to God, thanking him for Christian. I thank God that he is my husband, my protector, and greatest defender. I thank God that Christian loves and respects me.......And I thank God that I will be with Christian forever and even to infinity and beyond." I am not married, but I related to this post because I love my dad. He is my protector and my provider. He really takes care of our family. He is so great. I can tell my mom loves him too. Even though it embarrasses me, I love to watch my parents hug and kiss. I am glad we are sealed together. After reading this post, I decided I needed to write in my journal characteristics I want in a husband. These are the things I wrote: Must l...
