Its all about Integrity

We live in a country that was based on freedom of speech, freedom of beliefs, and the opportunity to have differing political views. Lately, I have felt that our country was losing these basic principles and rights. Maybe it is just my perspective, but I have seen it be very unpopular and almost unsafe to say out loud a view that was not "politically correct." I truly began to wonder if anyone out there, could and would stand up against the strong waves of conformity and state their unpopular opinion. It is not so easy these days to have integrity. I will admit that I would hate to be the lone voice stating an opinion that was against popular beliefs, but I hope I would. I try to teach my children to have integrity which means not being afraid to stand up for what you believe even when it is unpopular, but I do, because I feel it is a wonderful personality trait and frankly it is becoming extinct.

Today, I was pleasantly surprised. Today, I read and heard about one, a young woman, that had integrity. She alone stated her beliefs, in front of a crowd, knowing it was unpopular, yet she was HONEST! Honesty, ahhhh, what a refreshing thing. I love it.

For those of you who missed it, Miss California proved that integrity still exists. In the Miss USA pageant, Miss California, a favorite, was asked in her interview if she supported gay marriage. Wow. What a question. However, she stood and spoke HONESTLY and said no, she did not. Hard? You bet. It was a gay judge asking the question. You know she knew she would be in trouble for her answer. You know she knew she would be hurting that judge's feelings. She knew it would cost her the crown. But, she had integrity and stood up to her beliefs! Bravo, Miss California!!!

The main reason this struck me with such power is that she is really being punished for her views. Heck, the judge was fighting for his views and this is okay. He is fighting not to be discriminated against. I understand that completely. So if his fight is against discrimination, then why discriminate against her? Discrimination goes both ways. If we want to be free of it, then let EVERYONE say their views without backlash. Miss California is entitled to her view. Period. The end. Their should be no backlash. Just like the opposing side should not receive backlash. It is this backlash that is taking away integrity.

Today the judge called her two horrible names. One started with a B. The other was so awful, even the news said it was too awful to repeat. I read an article that said the chairman of the California pageant said he was embarrassed by her. He wanted to know why she brought politics into it. Hmmm....she didn't ask the question. She just gave an answer. Talk to the other party about bring politics into it. Second, does this mean the chairman of the California pageant would prefer to have a liar represent the state? To make everyone happy she would have had to lie about her beliefs. Is that the better option? To me, whether I agree with a subject or debate, I would rather have the people be HONEST than LIE to me. So what if I don't agree with what they say? I prefer honesty. If I was the chairman, or the judge, or anyone else, I would think it was great that a young girl stood up for what she believed, even under such great pressure! Just like I think it is great that the judge asked the question. He had the right. So why couldn't she have the right to say her answer. No one is after the judge. So why be after the contestant?

I also feel the chairman had a right to express his feeling, but he also could have said something positive to her, like "hey, thanks for being honest. Thanks for being brave, I disagree with you, but you showed courage." (Maybe, he did, and it was just left out of the article.) Disagree, please, but don't beat the person to death with your words. I even think it is okay to let your words show displeasure, lets just leave out the name calling and I really hope her honesty didn't cause her to lose the crown. That would be "politically incorrect" in my view. Isn't disagreement what politics are about? The word needs to get out that we can all have our own opinion. Its okay, just don't take disagreement to punishment.

There are even questions if her corporate sponsors will pull their funding. Why? Did she break the law? That is how everyone is acting. Last time I checked honesty and having an opinion was upholding the law not breaking it.

I say Bravo to the judge for asking the question. You had the right. But, now I say Shame on you for punishing the girl for her own viewpoint. I say bravo to Miss California. I also say, please don't let the pressure get to you. Don't change your mind to conform. Don't change your mind to be politically correct. The world is a better place because we all can disagree!! Hang on to your integrity girl!! You could teach the world a lot. Honesty really is the best policy!

I hope we all can be motivated by this young woman. I know my kids will hear her story tonight. She is what our country was made of!

Laurel, I too have read about all the controversy related to her answer. Thanks for speaking your thoughts so well on the subject. You are right, all of us in this free country of ours should want to teach our children how to say and stand for their beliefs, not be afraid to be the one voice going against the crowd.

Good points! If only we could all respectfully disagree and leave out the name calling. Live and let live, I say!

Thank you for voicing your opinion because I'm practically speechless. All I can think of is ditto!

I am with you. I hope my children will always be brave enough to answer honestly, and to defend others who do the same.

I could not believe the judge's distasteful blog followups to his question. He has made the pageant lose some of its majesty for sure. It took a ton of courage for her to stand her ground in that crowd for what she believed!!

Adam and I were talking about this very thing a couple of days ago. We, too, listened to the judge's post-pageant blog, and he called her the b-word because she was dumb and didnt' answer the question, not because she was anti-gay marriage (so he said). He then proceeded to talk about what she should have said--the funny thing is that she DID answer his question (maybe not that eloquently, but that's besides the point), so obviously his backlash is because her opinion is different from his. Why do people ask moral-issue questions if they are not fully prepared to hear an answer that is different from what they want? I think you hit the nail on the head--discrimination goes both ways. What I liked about Ms. CA is that she was okay with the fact that she got runner-up because she was true to herself. That's the reward of integrity--being true to yourself and finding satisfaction in that, regardless of what others think.

Did I just hear that?

Today I was at W*lM*rt and I had the WEIRDEST experience. I can't wait to hear what you all have to say about it. I was at the self check out and the worker that handles those came over to Nini and put her hands on Nini's cheeks and literally put her nose against Nini's nose. Okay....don't know you, plus it is serious cold and flu season. I pulled the cart back quickly. The lady was talking to Nini and asking her how old she was and telling her how cute she is (she is that). Then she said to me, "where did you get her from?" That question threw me. I have been asked where she is from, what nationality she is, but never, "where did you get her from?" I said China, but was thinking, "does she think I got her from a store or something?" This was just the beginning of what was the MOST outrageous conversation I have ever been apart of. She asked me her name. I told her and she said, "Thank you! It makes me so happy to hear that name."...

Maylin's room

Here is an update on painting. The doors continue to be a nightmare. We don''t have doors on the girls bathroom and no doorknobs on any of the other doors. Hopefully next week. I love everything else. Many of you asked about the glaze in the kitchen. It is an oil based glaze that comes in black, white, brown. You roll it on with a small roller and then take it off with a rag, by blotting it. You can make it darker or lighter depending on how much you put on and how much you take off. Here are pictures of Maylin's room. I was scared to make a change with 2 colors, but I think I like it. I don't know if you can tell but on the pink paint it is a wash (first white swirly, then pink) with light white flowers like the top pink ones. I picked words to go around her room that may inspire her. The Chinese translation is underneath. Of course, we used Meng, that was her first name...Meng ni and they called her Nini. The words are in vinyl and the flowers were painted using a pa...

Happily ever after

NieNie Dialogues: April 15, 2019 Christian is the most important person in Stephanie's life. She made this post about him. She wrote about how much she loved him and he loved her. Every year she dedicates a song to him as they enter another year as husband and wife. She said, "Everyday I pray to God, thanking him for Christian. I thank God that he is my husband, my protector, and greatest defender. I thank God that Christian loves and respects me.......And I thank God that I will be with Christian forever and even to infinity and beyond." I am not married, but I related to this post because I love my dad. He is my protector and my provider. He really takes care of our family. He is so great. I can tell my mom loves him too. Even though it embarrasses me, I love to watch my parents hug and kiss. I am glad we are sealed together. After reading this post, I decided I needed to write in my journal characteristics I want in a husband. These are the things I wrote: Must l...
